It is time once again, sweet women, to begin the work for the

32nd Annual New England Women’s Herbal Conference

August 23-25, 2019

If you are hard working, responsible and enjoy working ‘behind the scenes’, you are invited to join our New England Women’s Herbal Conference workstudy team.  Be part of the inner circle of worker bees that make the conference hum along smoothly throughout the weekend. This is a great opportunity to be of help and service as we work together to create a magical gathering for all.  

Our workstudy team is responsible for numerous jobs that help make the conference run smoothly.  Tasks are assigned equally and fairly to all and include:

  • Set up and Clean up for the conference (this is a physical work-trade position with some strenuous components)

  • Conference Registration

  • Emporium Set-up/Clean up

  • Decorating and Signage

  • Helping with Childcare

  • Equipment

  • Monitoring Workshops and Intensives

  • Coverage at the Information Booth

  • There are sure to be additional tasks that will need immediate attention, so flexibility is greatly appreciated. Most of our tasks are accomplished before and after the conference and still leave time for participating in many of the classes during the conference.

  • All Workstudy are expected to stay until the end of the conference, all work is completed, boxes are loaded, and Helen gives permission to leave.  This is generally around 5:30 p.m. but can be earlier or later depending on the year.

  • Because we need our work study to be available at specifically assigned times during the day which can interfere with the time you need to be with your child(ren), we’ve found it doesn’t work for women who are bringing their child(ren) to join the Workstudy team.  

What we offer our Workstudy Team & What is Expected in Return:

In exchange for joining our WHC workstudy Team, we offer a special registration fee of $125, which includes tuition, camping, and a simple light breakfast and lunch on Friday.  The workstudy Package doesn’t include meals during the conference (Friday Dinner to Sunday Lunch), indoor lodging or Intensives. These are additional fees and are not included in the workstudy Package.

Each workstudy woman must be available Thursday afternoon at 11:00am through Sunday afternoon and should be prepared to work 15-20 hours over the course of the conference. All workstudy women must be at the Camp at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 22nd, for our orientation meeting and to begin our tasks.   Please note: If you’re unable to arrive by 11 am on Thursday, unfortunately, you’ll not be able to join our workstudy Team.  

As part of the workstudy team, you may select in advance, four (4) workshops that you have your heart set on attending. We will do our best to work your weekend responsibilities around a few of those classes. There is ample free time to attend additional workshops, too. Work study may only register for one (1) Intensive during the conference to facilitate equitable Workstudy scheduling. There is a $35 fee for Intensives. You will need to receive permission from the WorkStudy Coordinator in order to register for an intensive.

Meals at the WHC
The Pre-Conference Meal Plan (Thursday Dinner, Friday Breakfast and Friday Lunch) will be provided for Work Study this year.

Work Study can choose to buy the delicious Conference Meal Package that includes 6 meals (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch & dinner and Sunday breakfast & lunch) for $85 and must be purchased in advance.  There will also be Food Vendors at the NE WHC this year if you wish to purchase food from the vendors instead of the meal package.

Camp Wicosuta is not set up for cooking your own meals. Because of safety reasons, personal fires, grills and/or camp stoves are not allowed and there are no facilities for washing up after meals (dishwashing is not allowed in bathrooms or shower houses). If you have special dietary requirements and food sensitivities, bring along a cooler with your own food to supplement the meals.  Please feel free to contact us with questions. Lodging at the WHC
Camping is included in the Workstudy Package.  If you wish to stay in a bunkhouse, there is an additional $65 fee that is payable with your registration.

Because we depend on our Workstudy Team, as a measure of your commitment the conference fee along with other applicable fees must be paid when you register for Workstudy.  We are unable to hold your space until your registration and payment is received. Registrations are taken in order of receipt until the twenty-eight Workstudy slots are filled.

We ask that you note this Cancellation Policy, as there will be no exceptions. It is EXTREMELY difficult to fill a Work Study Position last minute.  Thank you for your mindfulness with this.

Lodging

Camping is FREE and included in the cost of Registration.  If camping, you must bring your own camping gear including a waterproof tent, ground cloth, sleeping bags, pads, flashlight etc. Be sure that your tent is waterproof!   Portapotties are provided for campers (sorry no indoor toilet facilities) and limited indoor shower facilities.  Please note; camping is fun, but rustic. You must be prepared to bring what you need to be comfortable for the weekend.  Personal campfires and campstoves are not permitted. There is no additional charge for camping.

Off Site Lodging is another option. If you opt for more comfort and privacy, you might prefer to stay in one of the lovely B & B™s and hotels in the area.  The WHC is held in the beautiful Lakes Region of NH, and there are lots of lodging options in the area. We recommend Coppertoppe Inn. For additional lodging options click here.  

Indoor Lodging The bunkhouses at Wicosuta are clean and comfortable. Each bunkhouse has electricity, showers and bathrooms.  You can request to be with friends but must do so early (not when you arrive). The cost is for the whole weekend, not per night.  Includes Thursday night if you have pre-registered and paid for Early Check In. Bedding is not provided.  You must provide your own bedding (sleeping bag, blankets/sheets/pillow) and towels.

Meals

Meal Plans & Food Vendors Once again we are offering our Participants a choice of purchasing a Meal Package or purchasing individual meals from Food Vendors.  Both options offered a good variety of choices and wholesome delicious meals that satisfy most of our participant’s needs and wide range of food needs. We think it’s the best plan ever and are excited to see it working, thanks to your help. Camp Wicosuta is not set up for cooking your own meals. Conference Meal Plan: Friday Dinner to Sunday Lunch

Participants can choose to buy a delicious meal package that includes 6 meals (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch & dinner and Sunday breakfast & lunch). Meals will be plentiful, wholesome and delicious and based on a flexitarian menu. Options will include a variety of protein (fish, chicken and vegetarian), locally sourced vegetables, and whole grains. See sample menus on the website. Meal packages are $85 and must be purchased in advance. For Children 12 and under the meal package is $40

For those women who do not purchase a Meal Plan, there will be wonderful food offerings from food vendors! *Food Vendor Meals begin Friday Lunch, and the Conference Meal Plan begins Friday Dinner

Intensives

INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS

Intensive workshops offer participants the opportunity to delve deeper into subjects of particular interest and to work more closely with individual teachers.  Intensives are 3 ½ to 4 hours in length and are an additional $35 each.  Space is limited and intensives fill up quickly, but they are optional.
Be sure to register and prepay ahead of time to ensure your space. You can find our Intensive Workshop descriptions and times here.

Community

Gail Ulrich Memorial Scholarship

There are limited number of partial scholarships available to help those in financial need who would like to attend the NE Women’s Herbal Conference. Scholarships offset registration costs by $100 for Adult Registration, $50 for Elders, Teens and Children, and are used to help offset the tuition costs. In order to create as many scholarships and other discounted registration positions as possible, we ask that individuals applying for scholarships don’t apply for work-study positions. If you have an absolute need for both, then call and let us know and we’ll consider your situation. We want everyone who wishes to attend, to be able to come to these wonderful herbal events, as well as making sure that the event's expenses are covered. Thank you for your understanding!

After August 1 there are no refunds available. Registrations can be transferred to a woman of your choice at anytime, or donated to our scholarship fund.
The NEWHC expects to hold the conference, rain or shine. In the unlikely event that we were forced to cancel, we would refund as much of the registration fees as possible, which could mean we would be unable to offer any refunds. We ask that you note this Cancellation & Refund Policy, as there will be no exceptions.
